Support spacer extension

I'm trying to extend my support spacer to fit with my 3" forward control kit. I love the look of the current setup and would rather not swap it for the basic rod that came with the kit.

Not a mechanic, but wondering if there's a clean way to add 1" or so to each end maybe a thread-matching extension piece? I've seen adapters that change the size, just never ones that match exactly. Not sure yet if I'll keep the extension, but thought I'd test it first with the plain rod to see how it feels.

I ran into the same problem with my Warrior when I put on a 3" forward control kit. I really didn't want to change out my support spacer, either. The best solution is to use a thread-matching coupler nut that has a short stud on both ends. This way, it stays neat and is easy to reverse if needed. Just make sure to check the thread pitch since Yamaha sometimes mixes coarse and fine threads depending on the part. I also test-fitted mine with a plain rod first, it's a smart way to get the feel just right before making a final decision.

Did you end up using stainless hardware for the final setup? Also did you run into any clearance issues with the brake rod or shifter linkage after the extension?
